After Henry Cejudo retired recently, he vacated the Bantamweight belt which makes Yan vs Aldo possible.
A lot of people think Jose Aldo does not deserve to get this title fight. No.2 rank Aljamain Sterling with a 5 fight win streak in Bantamweight should be the one in Aldo’s place.
Aldo no doubt was the Featherweight king for years. But ever since he lost the title to Halloway & lost the rematch both in 2017, he only picked up 1 win in a year ( 2018, 2019 ). In May 2019, he lost to current champ Volkanovski in featherweight, then Aldo decided to move down to Bantamweight late last year, but lost a split decision to Marlon Moraes.
Compare to Russian Petr Yan, he is on a 9 fight winning streak since 2016 ( 6-0 in UFC ). Petr is a deserving candidate for this fight, but the experience Aldo may still have some trick up his ‘gloves’
