Let’s get to know the finalist.
FIGHTER NAME : NICHOLAS WONG
GYM : SHARKS MUAYTHAI & MMA
Can you tell readers about yourself
Well for starters my name is Nicholas, I train out of Sharks Muay Thai & MMA and I’m 19 this year. I would say I’m generally pretty quiet and shy. My favourite food would have to be Naan and Tandoori and my favorite movie is a film called “A silent voice”. Aside from training all day I usually like to play video games and read manga when I’m free.
How did you started martial arts?
I started out in Muay Thai when I was 14. At first I got into Muay Thai for an identity, as I was a pretty insecure boy in high school, but once I fell in love with the art I stopped caring about how I looked to others.
What’s your dream?
I would say the ultimate dream for me would be to hold a world title belt one day but I know I still have to work hard to get there.
As far as achievements go, I’ve competed under Penang state for this years’ SUKMA, unfortunately I fell short in quarter finals against this year’s 71kg Gold medalist.
Who is the most influential in your martial arts life?
I would say that my team are the people I feel most inspired by as my training partners in Sharks Muay Thai & MMA always make me train harder to not get left behind in the dust and my coach Jake Low always finds time to train me and push me despite running the gym. As for idols in martial arts my favorite fighters to watch are Rittewada Petchyindee and Chadd Collins.
Any advice for newcomer?
I think that depends on their goals if your goal is fitness I’d say just show up and do your best, If your goals are to be a fighter you have to put in the work, be consistent and be humble & willing to learn from others.
